Union Baptist Church, Ekotedo celebrates 80 years of God’s Goodness

The Union Baptist Church, Ekotedo, Ibadan, has announced plans to commemorate its 80th anniversary with a week-long celebration of spiritual reflection, community service, and thanksgiving.

The Chairman of the Anniversary Committee, Deacon T.O.P. Adewale, in a statement issued in Ibadan, said the church, founded in 1945, is rolling out drums to mark eight decades of unwavering commitment to the gospel, community outreach, and spiritual growth.

According to him, the church described as a “citadel of God’s grace”, has for generations, served as a place of worship, refuge, and transformation for countless individuals and families in Ibadan and beyond.

He added that under the leadership of Rev. (Dr.) Jonathan A. Babalola, the church continues to thrive through vibrant ministries that meet both the spiritual and practical needs of its members.

“This milestone is not just about looking back,” said Rev. (Dr.) J.A. Babalola. “It’s about giving thanks for God’s faithfulness, honouring those who came before us, and renewing our commitment to serve our community with love and hope.”

Deacon Adewale disclosed that the 80th anniversary celebration will feature a variety of impactful events :

Sunday, July 20 – Anniversary Thanksgiving Service at the church auditorium.

 

Tuesday, July 22 – Charity visit to Children of Promise Orphanage Home, Bashorun, Ibadan.

Wednesday, July 23 – Prayers and Revival Service

Thursday, July 24 – Medical Outreach to the community

Saturday, July 26 – Grand Celebration featuring the Launch of a ₦100 million Appeal Fund for Union Baptist College, Award Presentations, and In Memoriam for departed members.

Sunday, July 27 – Grand Finale Thanksgiving Service with Rev. (Dr.) Israel Adelani Akanji, President of the Nigerian Baptist Convention (NBC), as Guest Minister

“Members of the church—past and present—as well as the general public, community leaders, and well-wishers are warmly invited to be part of the celebration.

“As Union Baptist Church celebrates this historic moment, it remains committed to its founding mission drawn from Matthew 28:19-20: “To go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit.”

“The church continues to share the love of Christ, serve with compassion, and build a lasting legacy of faith for future generations”, he stated.
