LAGOSOBA ’92 donates 100 sets of tables and chairs to Lagelu Grammar School in historic giving back ceremony

In a remarkable show of commitment and patriotism, the Lagelu Grammar School Old Boys Association (LAGSOBA) Class of 1992, on Friday, July 18, 2025, donated 100 sets of plastic tables and chairs to their Alma Mater — Lagelu Grammar School, Agugu, Ibadan.
The donation is aimed at alleviating the long-standing infrastructural challenge of inadequate seating facilities for students in the school.
The formal presentation ceremony took place within the school premises in a warm and modest event that drew together dignitaries, education stakeholders, school authorities, and excited students.
The project was presented by the Class of ’92 Chairman, Lagelite Dr. Ojerinde Olaleye Ademola, alongside executive members and other proud members of the Class.
The occasion was graced by the Chairman of the Governing Board, the National President of LAGSOBA (represented by Engr. Morenikeji, Secretary of the national body), as well as both principals of the school — Mr. Adeyanju Gbolagade for the Senior Secondary School and Mr. Adebayo T.A for the Junior School.
Also in attendance was Mr. Opakunle S.A, the Assistant Local Inspector of Education, representing the Oyo State Ministry of Education.
The presence of staff, students, members of the Congress of Class ’92, and other invited guests added further colour to the memorable event.
During his address, Dr. Ojerinde Ademola, in his capacity as the Set Chairman, delivered a reflective and inspiring speech.
He recalled the humble beginnings of their class in 1986 — a “bonus term” admission year — and the hardship they faced as students who were required to bring their own chairs and lockers.
The lack of uniform seating arrangements, he noted, adversely affected the morale and performance of many less-privileged students. He expressed dismay that such challenges still persist in many public schools today, including Lagelu Grammar School.
“It is not about showing off,” he said, “but setting a standard for others to follow. We must all contribute to sustaining the legacy of excellence at Lagelu”, he said.
The Set Chairman further urged the school authorities to ensure fair allocation and proper maintenance of the donated items to benefit future generations.
He also called on other sets of LAGSOBA, especially those yet to give back, to emulate this noble gesture.
Responding on behalf of the school, Mr. Adeyanju Gbolagade, the Senior School Principal and himself an alumnus, expressed profound gratitude to the Class of ’92.
He emphasized that while government continues to make efforts, public schools can only attain excellence through the collaborative support of alumni and community stakeholders, assuring the donors of the school’s commitment to maintaining the items for lasting impact.
Adding a youthful voice to the occasion, the Acting Senior Prefect, Ajidagba Kamaldeen, extended heartfelt thanks to the Class of ’92, expressing hope that their generous donation would inspire other alumni to support the school’s development.
The Class of ’92 has indeed set a shining example of purposeful alumni engagement and commitment to educational development.
Long live Lagelu Grammar School,
Long live Oyo State,
Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
