IBILE G-7 celebrates Oba Ladoja @ 80
A prominent socio-cultural group in Ibadanland, the IBILE G-7, has celebrated a former Governor of Oyo State and Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rasheed Adewolu Ladoja, as he reaches the impressive milestone of 80th birthday.
The group in a statement by its President, Lanre Ogundipe and Secretary, Olajide Laniyonu, the praised Ladoja, who is often referred to as an “enigma,” highlighting his extensive legacy and diverse contributions to humanity.
The statement quoted renowned playwright William Shakespeare, noting that “some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them,” underscoring Ladoja’s embodiment of greatness.
The statement read in part, “Oba Ladoja is celebrated not just as a traditional leader, but also as a respected politician, cultural ambassador, and successful business figure. His unique blend of wisdom, knowledge, and a profound understanding of the people and traditions of Ibadanland has established him as a key figure in the region.
“His tenure leading up to this milestone has been marked by significant relationships with both the elite and ordinary citizens. Ladoja has garnered widespread admiration and respect within the community for his integrity and dedication as an elder statesman and former governor.
“His role within the Olubadan hierarchy has further endeared him to residents of all backgrounds, with the statement emphasizing his commitment to fairness and societal harmony as a head of the Kingmaker.”
The group lauded Ladoja for his exemplary service as a chief and active member of the prestigious Egbe-Agba, the traditional council.
“His dedication to preserving the rich traditions and history of Ibadan is unwavering, and he has consistently advocated for the city as a leading force within Yorubaland, even amidst controversies.
“On this joyous occasion, the IBILE G-7 heralds Oba Ladoja as a steadfast custodian of the customs and culture of Ibadan, a role he cherishes and diligently strives to maintain”, it stated.
