Adeduntan petitions IGP over delay in enforcement of court judgement
The Chairman, Dr. Azeez Popoola Adeduntan Foundation (DAPAF) and Osi Bashorun of Ibadanland, Prince (Dr.) Azeez Popoola Adeduntan, has petitioned the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun over the continued seizure of one of the cars of the foundation contrary to a court judgement.
The former Health Commissioner in Oyo State in a petition made available to journalists through his Media Office in Abuja, disclosed that the car was impounded since 2023.
The petition read in part, “On February 22nd, 2023; one of my foundation cars TOYOTA COROLLA with Registration number KWL927FH was recklessly impounded in Abuja by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Gwagwalada Police Station due to fraudulent transactions by the driver of the car, one Damilola Adekanlu and an online potential buyer.
“Despite my due diligence efforts and that of my lawyer to convince the DPO that this was an illegal transaction and proof of ownership shown ,
he refused to release the vehicle to me and my lawyer — Barrister Ifeoluwa Adigun ESQ, for the past 2 years and 3 months.
“In the light of the obstinacy of the DPO
and as a law abiding citizen, I instructed my attorney to file the case in court for judicial redress and intervention.
“I also personally visited and met with the FCT Police Commissioner, OLATUNJI DISU on October 10th 2024 ,who referred me to FCT COMMAND CID DIRECTOR, KAYODE OJAPINWA to effect the vehicle release.
“The court processes including the court judgment are set forth below and incorporated herein as if set verbatim.
“Based on my complaints and court judgement,as well as my visitation physically to the FCT Command, the vehicle had been moved to the FCT Police Command about 6 months ago — the same day I visited the FCT Abuja Command with a subsisting court judgment and order issued by the court.
“Attempts to get the court bailiffs to retrieve the vehicle had also been impossible.
“I submit that as a stakeholder in the NIGERIA PROJECT, NIgeria must not be turned into a BANANA Republic and HOBBESIAN SOCIETY, where impunity is the rule and court judgments and orders are not obeyed — more so by law enforcement agencies.
“I seek your immediate intervention to effect the vehicle release immediately.”
