The Onyendu Ndigbo of Ibadanland and Oyo State, High Chief Alloy Obi, has warned those who he described as enemies of progress to stop making inflammatory statements that could breach peace among Igbos in the state.
He gave the warning while speaking with journalists in reaction to a statement credited to a splinter Igbo group led by Chief Emmanuel Nzeakor.
Nzeakor had while addressing a press conference in Ibadan, his group is not perturbed by the judgment of the Court of Appeal which declared Obi as the authentic Onyendu Ndigbo of Ibadanland and Oyo State.
But Obi in his reaction said while Nzeakor and his group are free to express their opinions they should mind their utterances, insisting that they cannot lord their position on the entire Igbo Community in the state.
According to him, if they are dissatisfied with the judgment of the Court of Appeal they have a duty to consult their counsel on the next step to take, stating that they must not attempt to breach the prevailing peace among the Igbos in the state.
He maintained that he is not forcing Nzeakor and his group to support him as the Onyendu as he has tried his best to reach out to them, warning that they should not provoke him.
Obi noted that it is bewildering for Nzeakor to be saying that he is representing their group when he is not a lawyer, stating that it is a shame that the group is claiming that they were not aware of the day of the judgment.
“It is in their best interest to stop making noise. However I am happy that Nzeakor disclosed that I sent my people to them to embrace peace.
“Once again, I am urging them to embrace peace in the interest of the Igbo race”, Obi added.
